Viv sat in a corner of the room she had been placed in a week before. She had not seen or spoken to anyone since her arrival. Though she had not been locked into a cell as she had expected, she was bound to the room in some way. She could not leave, no matter how much she wanted to.
She had spent every waking moment of every day that passed, sitting in the dark corner with nothing but her thoughts and regrets. Though a fire glowed in the hearth, the room was dismal and dark. There were no windows and the candles about the room barely did anything to help Viv see. She had come accustomed to the dark and her senses had never been better. Surprisingly, she had been well fed and taken care of, but those who came by her room never spoke.
At first, she had been angry and she was constantly using her powers to get out. However, each time a bolt of lightning hit the wall or door, the room seemed to absorb the energy. She could use her powers in the room, but as she kept fighting it, she grew weaker, and too fatigued to use them.
The few hours that she spent asleep were haunted by nightmares and she tossed and turned relentlessly until she finally jolted awake. The furniture in the room was very elegant and Victorian styled. Viv supposed that if there had been a bit more light, she would have liked the room, but she hadn't seen the light of day in a week, nor had she been blessed with the sight of stars above her head. She had been very deep in thought when the door to the room opened...

Eryk entered the room with a pleasant smile on his face. "What is your name?" he asked Vivienne, knowing full well exactly what she would say. He was ready for her answer.... ready to change it that is...

Viv shrank back, avoiding Eryk's eyes. "Vivienne Amaranta Valora," she said, remembering Eryk's words to Malachi about changing her name. "Daughter of Edward and Lynda Valora, descendant of Favian Valora..." She was not about to give up her name, which she had been proud of her entire life.

Eryk laughed slightly before crossing the room and grabbing Viv roughly by the throat. "You are Vivienne Valora no longer," he said, willing her to look into his eyes. "Fom here on out, you shall be known as Valerie. And in honor of the once great Dima warrior Donovan Valora, you shall assume the name Donovan. How does tht sound... Valerie Donovan?"

Viv forced herself to keep her gaze away from his eyes and bit her lip as the urge grew stronger. "I am not, nor shall I ever be Valerie Donovan..." she said, her voice strong. "My name is Vivienne Amaranta Valora! You can take away why strength, you can take away my blood... you can take my possessions, but you shall never take away my name... my identity.... who I am and always will be!" Though her voice was strong and unwavering, she could not help but be afraid. "They will come for me...."

Eryk chuckled dangerously before he suddenly lashed out, slapping Viv across the face. "Need I remind you of everything that you have at stake?" he asked, his voice full of venom. "Your life? Your sanity?"

Viv flinched and recoiled as she felt the sting of Eryk's hand across her face. As her head snapped to face the door, she answered him with just as much venom. "There are things far more important then my life and sanity," she said, squirming slightly under his grip. "You can have my life and you can have my sanity, they mean little to me now, for you have already taken both of them. You cannot hurt me any more then you already have..."

Eryk sneared at her for a moment. "Is that so?" he asked. "What about your family? It would not hurt you to them in pain? Or to see them die like you saw your mother? Imagine the Valoras on the ground before me, writhing in absolute agony, their cries of help and pleas for mercy... useless..." He let go of Viv's throat and stepped back to better enjoy the effect this would have on her.
As Eryk went on, the black mist started to come out of his hands, swirling around Viv in characteristic spirals. "Imagine your poor brother, his screams piercing the cold night air as his body and mind succumb to death at my hand. Or your dear cousins Amy and Maximus begging for mercy at my feet. Imagine the pained look on your father's face when he learns that his entire family has been killed. All. Because. Of. You." He laughed then as the mist and his own thoughts painted images withing Vivienne's mind.

"No," Viv gasped as the mist stared to press in in her and she fell to her knees. As Eryk said these things, the images rushed through her mind, piercing like a dagger. She held her head in agony and tears started to run down her face and splash onto the floor. "Please..." she begged, unable to cope with the thoughts and images of her dying friends and family. "It wasn't... my fault. Please... don't hurt them. I'll do anything. anything you ask of me. Just leave them alone."

Eryk laughed as the black mist disappeared. "What is your name?" he asked, walking closer to Viv so that he stood right in front of her.

Viv kneeled at his feet for a moment, staring down at the ground as the tears stopped. "Valerie Donovan," she said, feeling physical pain as she knew what she had just given up... her life. "Warrior and humble servant of the Dima. Descendant of Donovan Valora, great warrior of the Dima... And sister of Eryk Kimball, Leader of the Dima." It was odd to Viv how as she spoke the words, she could feel her very being slip away and she began to truly believe the things that she spoke... but this was only the begining.... One thing she knew for sure at this moment was... Vivienne Amaranta Valora is dead... my name is Valerie Donovan...
