"Ainima?" The word was spoken clearly and fluently by the old man standing beside Tala. Sani grinned down at his grandaughter, a light in his eyes. See? he said to her.
Tala's brown eyes followed to the point he had indicated to her and she shook her head. She could not pinpoint exactly where the old man was pointing.
Sani tied a strip of cloth over her eyes. "Ayoohtsiwa, Little Wolf." Hear. "Your ears will find what your eyes cannot. Let your senses guide you."
The little girl listened silently. She could hear the rush of water, the singing og birds, the drumming of footsteps upon the earth floor. She could hear the panting of the wolf across the river bank.
Sani could tell by the smile on her face that she had found him. He untied the cloth and knelt beside her, his eyes on the wolf. "Trust in your ears Little Wolf. Your eyes can only take in so much at a time... but your ears..." He shook his head slowly, watching as their wolf friend trotted off through the trees. "They will tell you more. They are the first to pick up danger."

History:
Tala was born on a Blackfoot Indian reservation. Her father died when she was in her fifth winter of illness when the local healer could find no way to help him. Heart broken by the death of her husband, Tala's mother, Wyanet, left her home and family, taking her two children away with her.
Depression took over Wyanet's world. It was two years until Tala and her elder brother were able to see their grandparents again. It was summer and her mother was going through a very rough time. She took her family home, finally.
When Tala was nine, her mother left. One morning she woke up and her mother was just gone. So, Tala and her brother were raised by their grandparents. Just after Tala's older brother became a man, their grandfather was found dead in the forest. Life was never the same after that, especially after her brother went away to college and she was sent to Valora Academy.
Tala had been born a werewolf. That was how she received the name "Tala" in the first place as it was a native name for wolf. Her grandparents had often called her "Little Wolf." Being of Native American decent, Tala is not like other wolves. She is calmer and more gentle and knows how to control herself.
She has a way with animals and nature as she had been taught by her grandfather how to love and respect the earth and its many creatures. She hunts when she is in need of food and not just for sport or game. Fishing is another story though.
