Tala's room was rather... different then most other dorm rooms. For one, it smelled of pure incense and many different Indian herbs and sage. It was decorated by many different Indian symbols and dream catchers. There were a number of different animal skins and such around and... well, she didn't have a bed. Instead, she had animal furs that she used for sleeping on. It was the same way at home with her grandmother. When she had lived with her mother, she had had a bed. The skins furs made her feel more at home.
There was Native American tribal music coming from her speakers. She had other music of course, but this was what she listened to when meditating or on a vision quest. Hell, sometimes when she slept as well. It made her feel at peace and more at home.
Tala sat on a brown bear fur rug with her legs crossed. Her brown hair was in a braid and she had on a brown dress that clung to her upper body but had more of a flowing skirt. She wore an Indian styled necklace and feather earrings and that was it. She had no shoes on, which was common for her.
Her brown eyes were closed and her back straight as she breathed so calmly and slowly that you could hardly tell she was breathing at all. Sage burned in the burner in front of her, the smoke swirling in characteristic spirals around her and the strong scent flowing through the room. The sound of the drums drifted through the air, helping to guide her. She was on a vision quest.
Her mind was a swirl of thoughts and the more she focused, the more clear they became. They were like lights, just drifting in the air. Once she focused on one, the rest disappeared. A rush of images and thoughts drifted toward her, blurred at first.
Suddenly, she was in the forest, running. At first, she was running barefoot in her human form. It was dark and only the moon lit the area. Drums filled the silence, causing her heart to pound. Terror was in the air. She found herself looking back as if she were running from something. As she ran, she shifted into her wolf form, running faster.
She came to a halt in a clearing by the forest lake, panting heavily. She heard a sound of to the left and her head snapped to the side, her ears flicking backward then forward again, her tail between her legs now. Red eyed creatures surrounded her. They came at her so quickly that she had no time to react. Everything went black and then suddenly she was on a trail.
She was running again, that same feeling in the air. She could hear something running behind her, but then something came at her from the front as she had been running toward it without realizing. Th sound of a gun being cocked ripped through the air, louder than the drums. Black again.
She was still running, dodging trees and bolting as fast as she could. The drums were getting louder and her heart was pounding along with them even as they grew faster and faster, driving her onward. A fallen tree blocked her path and she found herself out of energy, unable to jump it. The thing that had been behind her was now silent and she searched around her, shifting into a human once more.
Then, it was suddenly there, upon the fallen tree trunk, growling at her menacingly, ready to attack. The other wolf pounced at her and blackness enveloped her again, the vision fading...
Tala's eyes snapped open and she gasped slightly, her heart pounding and the sound of drums fading as the song that had been playing ended to be replaced by another. Her breathing was no longer as calm and instead she was breathing a bit heavily, shaken by her vision as if she had actually been there. She sat there for a few moments, trying to calm herself and rid herself of the effects of the disturbing quest. It was growing later, she had been out of it for a while.
